Midnight Sun has had an illustrious career on the race courses of the world. She has raced competitively all her life and has won prestigious awards in Europe and the East Coast of the United States.

Previously named Ichiban and owned by Jim Allsop of North Sails, she was the Chesapeake IMS champion in 1991. Under current ownership, and returned to her original name, Midnight Sun has been campaigned competitively to great success out of Stamford, CT. With the mast and boom modifications and new sails she is competitive in both light air buoy races as well as open water distance races.

She is fully Category I equipped for offshore racing or extended cruising:

  • 1st in Class for the 1994, 1995, & 1996 Stamford Vineyard races
    (1st in PHRF Fleet in 1995)
  • Tied for 1st place in the Royal Hamilton Onion Patch Race (Bermuda), 1996
  • 1st in IMS Class D for the New York Y.C. Regatta, 1996
  • Won the Seawanhaka White Trophy, 1996
  • 1st in IMS Class 2 and 2nd in IMS Fleet for the Storm Trysail Block Island Race, 1994. Storm Trysail Club's trophy for best overall performance by a vintage yacht (15 years or older).
  • 1st in Class A for the Monhegan Island Race (Maine), 1994
  • Finished in the top 25% of the IMS fleet in the 1994 and 1996 Newport to Bermuda races
