Midnight Sun was designed by Ron Holland and built in aluminum to the highest standards by the Royal Heussman Shipyard in the Netherlands.

Originally designed for the IOR Grand Prix circuit, she was modified in 1986 with interior accomodations for IMS Cruiser Racer. She has raced successfully throughout Europe and the East coast of the United States, including such races as the Admiral's Cup, Fastnet, Newport/Bermuda, and many others. (see 'Race History' for details)

Midnight Sun has been kept in top racing form with a newly faired, wet-sanded bottom, new Sparcraft mast and 2' extended boom (E19.3). In 1996 she was reballasted and rerigged for optimum performance in the light-air conditions common to the Chesapeake and Long Island Sound. The exterior was also refurbished in 1996 with blue Awlgrip topsides and gray deck. She rates 30 PHRF and 568 IMS (similar to current J-44s), with a cruiser/racer accomodation certificate on file.
